Racing is not a hobby for Leigh Caruthers. It has become a lifestyle. Leigh has been racing since the age of four. He has a variety of racing experience under his belt. Give him a ride with two wheels or four wheels and he can race it.
The motor cross track was Leigh’s first debut. For nine years he dominated the field. He also ventured onto mountain bikes winning every race that he entered. Leigh had the same luck on BMX bikes as well, finishing on the podium in all of his races.
Once Leigh had exhausted all options on two wheels, he progressed to fast-paced rides with four wheels. For two years he was extremely successful at winning several races on four wheelers, as well as picking up many pole awards while driving go-karts for two years.
In 2004, Leigh broke into the Limited Late Models scene. In his 2005 season, he scored his first win on asphalt, and was awarded the Most Improved Driver Award at Wake County Speedway, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Leigh quickly moved on to driving NASCAR Late Model Stocks. In 2006 he finished runner-up for the Rookie of the Year Award at Southern National Speedway, in Kenly, North Carolina. He also proved himself in 2007 as he snagged the Most Popular Driver of the Year Award at Orange County Speedway, in Rougemont, North Carolina.
Currently, Leigh continues to race NASCAR Late Model Stocks, and has plans to move up to NASCAR’s elite divisions. His partnership with the Special Olympics of North Carolina makes him unique from the other drivers. Leigh began volunteering with the Special Olympics in 2004 after his involvement with the Special Education program at Wakefield High School in Raleigh, NC. His ongoing participation with the program encouraged him to approach the Special Olympics of North Carolina in 2010 to become the first NASCAR race team owner and driver to partner with this organization.
In his spare time, Leigh enjoys golfing, boating, hiking, riding four wheelers, and spending time with his friends and family. Leigh is a very goal oriented person and works hard each day to reach his goals. He looks forward to a great race season in 2010 and appreciates all of the support from his fans. |
